to Exuberantly Renovated Historic Mill Overlooking Tar River

Rocky Mount, NC (June 16, 2017) — Rocky Mount Mills, a picturesque 150-acre mixed use development on the Tar River, announced today that Envolve Vision, the vision benefits division of Envolve, Inc., an integrated healthcare solutions company,  will relocate its operational headquarters to the campus.

Meticulous renovations are already underway to transform a 22,887-square foot portion of the 200,000-square foot historic mill into dynamic Class A office space for Envolve Vision, complete with breathtaking views of the Tar River rapids. The company expects to relocate around 120 employees, including its CEO and leadership team, to Rocky Mount Mills by late summer 2018.

Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) is leading the reinvention of Rocky Mount Mills — the same development team that transformed Durham’s American Tobacco Campus into an award-winning national model for historic rehabilitation.

Rocky Mount Mills’ scenic campus and live-work-play amenities will help Envolve Vision attract the best and brightest talent in a highly competitive market, according to David Lavely, CEO of Envolve Vision. The move to the reinvented mill community also allows the company, which was founded more than 30 years ago in Rocky Mount, to remain in its hometown. From its current base in Rocky Mount, Envolve Vision’s leaders conducted a far-reaching search for a new location.

“Envolve Vision was founded more than 30 years ago in Rocky Mount, and we are delighted to be able to relocate and remain in our hometown,” said Lavely. “This will be a world class environment that will enhance our services to our customers.”

Michael Goodmon, CBC’s vice president of real estate, added, “There’s nothing in our region — perhaps anywhere — quite like Rocky Mount Mills, given its history, its scale, its river setting. We are privileged to be writing a new chapter in the Mills’ long history of excellence, and thrilled to welcome a neighbor as innovative and community-minded as Envolve Vision.”

Rocky Mount on a Roll

An announcement celebration at Rocky Mount Mills on Friday featured remarks by an enthusiastic collection of state and regional leaders including Dr. John Hardin, executive director, Office of Science & Technology at the NC Department of Commerce.

“Innovation takes many forms,” Dr. Hardin said. “Envolve Vision is a great example of a company that has applied innovative thinking not just to its own business, but to the ways a company can help drive overall economic growth in its region by engaging in a project as transformative as Rocky Mount Mills.”

Other speakers included Rocky Mount Mayor David Combs, Pfizer executive and Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce President Marty Nealey and CBC President Jim Goodmon.

Congressman G. K. Butterfield noted in a statement: “Envolve Vision and Rocky Mount Mills both exemplify the spirit of can-do innovation that has been a hallmark of our region for generations.  I applaud both for their continued commitment to building opportunities for jobs and investments in eastern North Carolina.  This partnership is an important step toward positioning our region to continue to thrive economically and improve the quality of life for residents.”

Rocky Mount Mills includes 300,000 square feet of office/multi-use space (including the historic mill building), 10-20 acres for selected advanced manufacturing and, eventually, 100 new and restored homes/loft apartments as well as existing and future restaurants and other amenities.

The campus also features a craft breweries, a craft brewery incubator as well as a brewery lab run by Nash Community College as part of their Brewing, Distillation, and Fermentation degree.

The Village at Rocky Mount Mills features restored homes (close to 60) that have been a runaway hit — with occupancy now near capacity. Eventually, Rocky Mount Mills will offer 100 restored homes and lofts for rent.
