5K Race with Concert and Other Attractions to Launch in Summer 2016, Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Public Invited to Tour Project Twice Monthly

(Rocky Mount, NC) – Feb. 2, 2016 – Koi Pond Brewing at the Rocky Mount Mill is open for business. SpringBoardNC, Sweet Taters Brewing and the real estate management offices for the project are near completion. And, the team at Rocky Mount Mills has begun planning its first community event in collaboration with Tar River Running Company. The Rocky Mount Mills 5K will launch on June 4, 2016 with a road race, food truck rodeo, concert and North Carolina craft beer.

“This event will be like no other in Rocky Mount,” says Michael Forrester, owner, Tar River Running Co. “With the revitalization of the Mills this is a perfect location to host a premier race that truly showcases the past, present, and future of Rocky Mount. We selected a race course that highlights the beauty of our town. Finishing with a concert and food trucks will create an environment that runners and non-runners can all enjoy.”

Proceeds from the race and ancillary events will benefit the Carolina’s Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“We wanted to create something that had both a positive impact on our community and also could benefit an important charity,” says Caroline Forrester, Co-Race Director. “Several people involved with our race have been personally impacted by CF. This is our way to raise awareness and money for this terrible disease.”

The Rocky Mount Mills 5k will be a timed race starting at 9:00 am. The finish line will be right beside the historic Rocky Mount Mills where all racers over 21 will be welcomed with a cold craft beer from Bull Durham Beer Co. Runners, families and the cheering crowd will be welcome to stay after the event for a food truck rodeo, live music from Matty Begs and more craft beer from Rocky Mount Mills breweries.

Additionally, the Rocky Mount Mills will offer twice monthly tours of the space starting in February. Potential business owners, fans and members of the community are invited to come to the Mills each month on the third Thursday from 3:30-5 and the fourth Monday from 10-11:30.
